WHAT TO WRITE

Year end is always a volcanic time of the calendar. There's the excitement of the holidays, a busy closing up period, presents, parties, public holidays ... ! It's a time of equal introspection and celebration. It's all the inspiration we could ever ask for. That's why this year's short story topics revolve around the various aspects of the festive season.
You can write any genre you feel like, using the below topics.
Your short story should be <2000 words.

Pick a topic from the list below:

  • It's New Year's Eve and something in the morning air makes your skin tingle. This isn't going to be an ordinary last day of 2021 ...

  • A now successful person, once stemming from an ordinary part of South Africa, reflects back on their journey, during their year end office party ...

  • Doing a bout of cleaning, you come across an old notebook with your resolutions from the Decembers past ...

  • ... And suddenly, your South African home town is swept by sheets of snow in the middle of summer! ...
