'BOOK OF DREAMS': MERVIN M. FRANCIS MAKES IT REALITY

As publishers, we probably have the greatest job in the world. KREST Publishers gets to be a part of so many creative journeys. It's always fulfilling to be the companion that stands by a writer when they make the choice to turn their publishing dreams into reality. This was especially true for the case of Mervin M. Francis, who titled his debut work 'Book of Dreams'.

'Book of Dreams' is a poetry anthology. It will soon be released as a stunning hardcover edition, in lovely gloss finishes throughout. The writer's work comprises mostly romance pieces - transporting one back to a time where lovers spouted poetry to each other, and dusk was the sweet place where romance was infinitely possible. Francis believes in the power of poetry to uplift and sew joy through the world.

Prior to the upcoming release of 'Book of Dreams', KREST checked in with Francis about any preliminary thoughts before we are treated to the beautiful book soon!

KREST: Having published your own book, you likely enjoy reading. What’s your favourite book?

I am a country boy by heart so I read a lot of Louis Lamor books. Wilbur Smith also captured my time.

KREST: It's a big decision to set your mind to writing a book. At what point did you decide you wanted to go ahead and write a book?

The idea came about when I was having a chat with a family member, who suggested I set up a YouTube vlog for my poetry. Once the decision was made to get my poetry out there, fate worked in my favour. An old school friend introduced me to her daughter, who just so happened to work in publishing! Everything fell into motion.

It's strange - I was not even leaning towards writing a book; I was more fascinated with the idea of doing cards for Hallmark, but did not pursue that idea. So when the opportunity to do a book came about, the excitement took over and I rose up to the challenge.

We have an anecdote in Toyota that reads "Start Your Impossible", so I did just that.

KREST: We often hear of writers taking months or years to produce something good. How long did it take you to write 'Book of Dreams'?

These poems span 3 decades! I used to write them as a love struck teenager. Then, as I got into the working environment, I used to write only when I had time available. That slowly dwindled to when I found a reason to whip up a poem.

KREST: Can you give us a little teaser of what your anthology is about?

My poems mostly deal with the romantic side of life. There are also a few variations - about the world, about the passing of time, and even about solid friendship.

KREST: What was your favourite part of the publishing process?

The interaction with my editor was a great collaborative experience. We got to liaise on everything from reworking the poetry to putting forward a cover concept to the designer. Two heads are better than one!

KREST: How much work went into getting a book published and do you think others can do it too?

The most work went into the writing of the material. When it came to the rest of the publishing, it was expertly handled by KREST Publishers. They made the journey exciting and stress free. If you have a passion for writing and you feel that you want to share your work with others, then I would say take the plunge and get your work out there for all to share in it.

KREST: What do you want readers to take away from this book?

That no matter what life throws you, as long as you have love in your heart, the world becomes a better place 😃

KREST: Can your readers expect more great anthologies from you in the future?

Yes; after this interaction with my publisher, I confident enough to reach out and embrace the talent within. I have already started preparing for the next book and the poems are pouring out quite quickly!

KREST: Do you have any advice for other aspiring writers out there?

Life is all about challenges, respect for others, and the ability to trust in yourself. Never doubt yourself and what you can achieve. Be positive and headstrong and reach out for the stars.
