BEHIND-THE-SCENES: 'BOOK OF DREAMS' LAUNCH

Pre-publication work takes weeks, and it is only fitting that the end of the process is marked with a book launch. 'Book of Dreams', the poetry spectactular from Mervin M. Francis, was started on in July 2020, and celebrated its launch on the 21st of November.

Due to pandemic restrictions, the launch was limited to a private event with media, publishing associates, and some of author's friends/family. Here's what happened at the event:

Suburban Cafe in Durban North, KZN

The event took place at a charming cafe in the heart of Durban North. Suburban Cafe is a gem of a venue for a chic event. It is situated just behind Kensington Square, on Ennisdale Drive.

The theme of the launch was 'Love is in the Air', in keeping with romantic poetry anthology, and the dress code was summer chic.

The interior of Suburban Cafe is decorated with vintage chic furniture and finishing, in classic hues of grey. There is a garden for any outdoor usage.

In line with the running theme of romantic poetry, custom made decor made for good photograph opportunities. Interspersed around the venue were quotes from famous poetry.

The best quote of all, though, was this one...

This iconic quote from 'Book of Dreams' joined the other famous poetry proudly. The quote framed the main stage beautifully.

'Book of Dreams' by Mervin M. Francis, published through KREST Publishers stands proudly.

The program started with words from Keli Hariparsad, who served as the editor on the book, and is the newly appointed director of the publishing house. Also of special note from the KREST team is Pravit Lochan, director of KREST's holding company before it became fully independent, and Wendy Hariparsad, who co-ordinated the event as part of KREST's new book launch services. The designer of the stunning cover is Micaela de Freitas.

KREST is also happy to welcome to the team Kieyora Francis, the poet's daughter, who will be guest blogging for the large readership base the publisher has on publishing news. KREST Publishers truly considers itself a large family, and what better way to welcome new members, than family of family!

Mervin M. Francis and Keiyora Francis surprised the attendees by turning one of the poems from the book into a melodic song.

Guests were also privy to an on-the-couch interview between the poet and a journalist.

While Mervin had surprised the audience with his song, he was met with an equal surprise! The author's family expressed their congratulations with a cake in the shape of the special poetry book.

Every guest was given a branded gift bag to take away from the event. The gift bag contained a little notebook and pen, and a well-wish to every person on starting their own book of dreams in anything they aspire towards!

It was a largely sentimental event, and both author and publisher wish to thank everyone who supported the 'Book of Dreams' journey. Whether it was through reading the blog updates, purchasing a copy, or even reaching out to say congratulations - you've made this a very special time for all involved.
