KREST SIGNS ON TWO WRITERS DURING SA LOCKDOWN
KREST
Publishers, the publishing imprint of digital media and telecommunications
company LOCHAN MEDIA PTY LTD, is set to release two books this upcoming winter.
The imprint
was co-founded by LOCHAN MEDIA and author Keli Hariparsad to give a platform to
a more diverse range of genres and stories than previously seen in the South
African publishing market.
Equally as important
as the publishing aspect of the business is its online bookstore, which sells
books on behalf of other publishers, self-published authors, and ordinary citizens
who want to tidy up their bookshelves.
The business
prides itself on highly personal service in all parts of its operations.
Naturally,
being a Durban-based publisher, KREST is excited to announce that two writers
from their home-province KZN have been signed on over the lockdown period. Both
upcoming books are vastly different and equally special, an excellent
representation of KREST’s diverse interest in work that is, above all else,
well-written.
VIOLENT DELIGHTS BY Y.M. DEVRAJ
An
anthology as both disconcerting and beautiful as its title, is this debut from
Durban-based Yasthiel Devraj.
Y.M. Devraj
is a journalist, writer, and aspiring neuropsychologist. The 24-year old Devraj
is all about fresh perspective in his writing. In fact, his chilling story
about a home AI interface gone rogue won 5th place in the KREST short
story competition. Devraj has had pieces of poetry published on local
platforms, including his own paperstreetdiaries.com, and KREST is proud to
publish his first stand-alone anthology.
Violent
delights is an honest, sometimes jarring, collection of poetry exploring fragile
convention, sanity, and existence. It is poetry that resonates at every
seemingly insurmountable point in life, but still allows readers to walk away with
a small sense of bravery. The book is estimated to be a late-June release.
A war-based
adult fiction novel with drama, romance, and crime, comes from Ballito-based Paul
Zunckel.
Zunckel
himself served with the SADF in the South African Border War. Additionally, he
worked on a cargo ship, travelled around Africa for Safmarine, and obtained a
microlight pilot’s license. With a Bachelor of Arts degree and a wealth of
adventure behind his name, Zunckel made the perfect writer for this war-set story.
Secrets and
Lies is a carefully-written, multi-layered plot set during the seventies and
eighties. While taking place in an African war setting, the story is really a
deep exploration of the characters and the way their lives interlink as they
love, lose and betray each other. Fans of Wilbur Smith will love this offering
from a fresh voice to the genre. This novel is scheduled for release in June/July.
