KREST Publishers is excited to announce the annual short story competition in which a talented South African can win the grand prize of R1000, and have their story published on our blog!

It’s simple:
1.       Pick a topic from the list below
2.       Write a short story in less than 2000 words.
3.       Submit your story to submissions@krestpublishers.co.za between 1 April 2020 and 16 April 2020.

WHO CAN ENTER

·         South African citizens of any age and from any province.
·         Anyone with a good story, even if you aren’t a professional writer!

WHAT TO WRITE

Your short story should be <2000 words.

Pick a topic from the list below:

  1. WRITE OF ROMANCE AT ANY SOUTH AFRICAN LANDMARK DESTINATION. Whether it’s a first meeting while holidaying at the Kruger National Park, an anniversary at the Drakensburg, or a proposal on Table Mountain – the love story is in your hands!

  1. WRITE ABOUT A UNIQUE HOUSE IN YOUR SOUTH AFRICAN SUBURB. The house might have secret passageways, magical garden sculptures, or be built of unusual materials – let your imagination run wild here!


  1. WRITE ABOUT HOW A CONSPIRACY THEORY GETS UNMASKED IN YOUR SOUTH AFRICAN HOMETOWN. Whether it’s an alien aircraft cover-up or a hushed scientific experiment – you can create a character that will expose it all!

  1. WRITE ABOUT A SOUTH AFRICAN FAMILY FACING A PROBLEM. Whether it concerns financial difficulties, is about urban or rural households, has to do with job loss, centres on social stigma… the stories of South Africans matter to us.


  1. WRITE A WHODUNNIT! Whether it’s a murder mystery, crime thriller, or the simple case of who ate your lunch at work – you can bring out your detective skills in any way you like!

HOW TO ENTER

We know you’re full of exciting words – but only one story per participant is allowed, so choose wisely!

  • In the body of your email tell us a bit about yourself – don’t forget to include contact details so we can contact you about that beautiful story of yours!

COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1.       This competition is organized by KREST Publishers, an imprint of LOCHAN MEDIA PTY LTD.

2.       The competition is open to permanent residents and citizens of South Africa of any age, in possession of a valid South African ID document (except where they are below age 16), of any South African province.

3.       By entering the competition, all participants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions, and all disputes will be settled by KREST Publishers whose decision will be final and binding.

4.       The competition is only valid within South Africa.

5.       The competition commences on 1 April 2020 and closes at midnight on 16 April 2020, all days inclusive.

6.       The participant stands a chance to win prize money of R1000 which will be transferred via EFT to a valid South African bank account of the winner or a different account holder that we receive written permission to EFT to. The participant also stands a chance to have their story published on the KREST Publishers blog page.

7.       To enter, the participant is required to email their short story to submissions@krestpublishers.co.za with a short note about themselves, and ‘Short Story Competition’ as the subject line. Only one entry per entrant is allowed.

8.       All entries will be reviewed by a judge selected by KREST Publishers.

9.       Winner will be selected by the judge based on review, not a random draw. The winner will be selected before 21 April 2020. The decision is final and binding and KREST Publishers will not enter any correspondence regarding the decision.

10.   The winner will be notified via email where they will have until midnight on 26 April 2020 to respond. If the winner fails to respond within this time, KREST Publishers reserves the right to select another winner.

11.   Once the winner has been successfully contacted, and banking details provided, the prize money will be transferred, and the story posted on the blog.

12.   The winner will be publicly announced on KREST social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email among others.

13.   All participants indemnify KREST Publishers and its advertising agencies against any claims whatsoever arising from their participation in this competition.

14.   By entering this competition, the participants agree that KREST Publishers may contact the participants via email and social media platforms to deliver marketing communications.

15.   All queries relating to the competition can be directed to KREST Publishers on the address info@krestpublishers.co.za.
