Being founded by a writer, we know all about the notions. The beautiful story after story that ends up getting – not even rejected, but – outright ignored. The waiting on a simple email response, for months on end. Insufferably requesting feedback for improvement sake. We know all about every publishing hurdle you’ve had.

As Krest Publishers we want to put an end to that.

Here is how Krest Publishers is going to make the journey easier for you:

1.     We Want That Cyberpunk Sci-Fi Horror Romance of Yours!

The niche genres aren’t usually picked up by large publishers in South Africa, due to conservative and commercial reasons. We’re about to rock that boat, however. No matter what your genre of fiction – we’re interested in your quality writing.

2.     New Kid on the Block? Fine by Us.

The hard truth is that readers tend to buy from authors they know. This is why it’s so hard for newcomers to get taken on by publishers. So here’s how we’ll do it... first we’ll take a chance on you... then we’ll make sure you get noticed.

3.     Time is Money...

Those months you spent awaiting a response, let alone the finished book, could have been spent earning royalties. We aim to review your manuscript in a few short weeks and aim to complete it just as efficiently. We can do this without compromising quality because, as a smaller publisher, we’re not working on a millions things at once.

4.     Have it Your Way

Your manuscript is your baby and we understand you might have a certain vision for it. We include you in decision-making such as cover design and proof approval.

5.     Royalties!

Any traditional publisher will pay out royalties (if they’re not, you’ve likely published through an NPO or through self). But these royalty percentages are often based on book sales and trends. Our contract lays out a fixed percentage so that you can gain from every single book sold.

6.     Right Where You Belong

If you’re looking for a thriller would you necessarily look in the ‘SA Writers’ section? Probably not. Unlike physical bookstores, our online store categorizes your books according to genre so that it will actually be picked up by its intended audience.

7.     There’s Place for Everyone

Have you self-published? Have you got remainder copies from a previously published book? We’ll market it and sell it on our online store for you. We welcome everyone here at Krest.

FIRST PLACE – RIETTE DE KOCK! (SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2020)

A massive congratulations to Riette De Kock who wins first place in our 2020 short story competition! Riette took the “Whodunnit” topic and turned it on its head with a unique twist. Riette lives in Hermanus and says she keeps writing stories out of love even though she has never won anything. Well, Riette, your day has come! Here’s her winning story: “MURDER BY THE BOOK” BY RIETTE DE KOCK He emerged from rolls of paper, his pages neatly cut, arranged in order, and glued before he was put into a press. When he came out he wore a thick hard cover. After he cooled down a bit, a designer body sleeve was put around the cover. He looked undeniably immaculate, and still smelled like printer’s ink. He was delivered by an overnight courier that morning, after which he was unpacked. He received a sticker on his back and one in his inside cover page, and was placed on a trolley. 'BOOK OF DREAMS': MERVIN M. FRANCIS MAKES IT REALITY

As publishers, we probably have the greatest job in the world. KREST Publishers gets to be a part of so many creative journeys. It's always fulfilling to be the companion that stands by a writer when they make the choice to turn their publishing dreams into reality. This was especially true for the case of Mervin M. Francis, who titled his debut work 'Book of Dreams'. 'Book of Dreams' is a poetry anthology. It will soon be released as a stunning hardcover edition, in lovely gloss finishes throughout. The writer's work comprises mostly romance pieces - transporting one back to a time where lovers spouted poetry to each other, and dusk was the sweet place where romance was infinitely possible.
