SELF-PUBLISHING THROUGH A PUBLISHER - HOW IT WORKS

Image
Self-publishing doesn't necessarily mean you have to go ahead and do the entire impossibly long and painstakingly detailed process yourself. You can pay someone to handle it all for you. And this is essentially what it means to pay a publisher to self-publish for you. You won't need to source your own editors, designers, typesetters, illustrators - a publisher already has these in-house staff. You don't need to invest in technology to generate barcodes or format eBooks - a publisher will already be working with these programs. And more than anything, you won't need to give up countless hours to suffer through the many months it takes to publish a book - a publisher familiar with the process can get it done half the time. KREST Publishers is a publishing house based in Durban, South Africa, that does both traditional and self-publishing. Because, to us, there should be NO DIFFERENCE in how your book is published. Both deserve the same level of quality. Both books will c...

THE BEST OF 'LOVE AND LIES'

Image
The essence of poetry is being able to capture moments with as few words as possible. Unlikely lengthy novels, which slow burn through meaty description to their inevitable ends, poetry is the mere bone of an idea. And it can be quite chilling how the words can sit under your skin adamantly. No poetry rings more true to this than the "Love and Lies" anthology by Kwanele Sifunda.  The 130-poem anthology (refreshingly large for books in this category) contains work that made us feel both blissful and disconcerted at surprising times. Here is a little scrap-book post of some of some of our favourite verses from the book: POEMS ABOUT LOVE The book starts off on a sweet note. We felt a little high on the love drug during this pretty part of the book!   page 7 - Love and Lies by Kwanele Sifunda page 12 - Love and Lies by Kwanele Sifunda page 23 - Love and Lies by Kwanele Sifunda POEMS ABOUT HEARTBREAK The flow of the verse gradually twists (so subtly that it's a shock when it...

GOING 50/50 WITH A PUBLISHER - WHAT IT REALLY MEANS

Image
The publishing landscape is changing. In the beginning there was Traditional Publishing - a god of the printed work, held in steadfast reverence as the only reputable way of publishing. There was the slow take-over of Self-Publishing - the disruptive newcomer of whom the people were wary. And not necessarily with reason, of course, as self-publishing eventually came to establish itself as a good way for writers to keep the financial benefits from their art, which are rightfully theirs. Now enter Hybrid Publishing. The rather shaved definition of Hybrid is when publisher and author go 50/50 on costs in order for both to reap equal benefits - financially, artistically, reputational-wise. Like any publishing model, there are legalities around it. KREST Publishers takes pride in freely providing information to aspiring writers - because no one else will give you the good, bad, ugly like this before pushing a contract your way.  Here is what a typical Hybrid contract contains: 1....
